This rewarding role is on the front line of services offered by Council to the local community with a broad spectrum of responsibilities.As a Community Laws Officer, you will:
  • Undertake Animal Management and Local Law enforcement.
  • Provide advice, guidance and assistance to educate and foster a greater understanding in the community of the need to prevent, control and monitor issues associated with Community Laws.
  • Encourage and maintain compliance through enforcement, mediation and when required, prosecution of breaches against Acts, Regulations, Local Laws and parking legislation.
  • Promote responsible pet ownership within the municipality of Knox City Council
  • Compose letters, reports, witness statements, briefs of evidence and issue infringements.
  • Maintain accurate and detail oriented records in our Customer Response System.
This is a full time permanent role based at the Knox Civic Centre. We support flexible working arrangements while ensuring operational needs of the role are met.This is a Band 5 classified role. Remuneration will be $80,377.95 to $93,517.76 (depending on experience) plus superannuation in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee and a tool of trade vehicle.What you will bring to this roleThe key selection criteria for this role are:
  • Highly developed customer service skills and ability to deal with customers at all levels.
  • Focused on resolving conflicts through mediation that supports all parties.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks to ensure timely completion of investigations and service requests are met.
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment, demonstrating self-motivation.
  • Experience in an investigative role, specifically including the collection of evidence, taking statements, conducting interviews, and preparing briefs of evidence for presentation to external bodies (desired).
  • Confident in dealing with animals, in particular cats and dogs whilst applying safe handling techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation.
  • Competent in the use of technology systems and applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships across all levels of the organisation and with external stakeholders.
  • A commitment to participate in overtime and after-hours duties as rostered or directed to meet operational needs.
The working hours for this role will be 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday with a rostered day off every 4 weeks. There is an on call roster and overtime to meet operational needs. Council provided uniform, safety equipment (including vest and Body Worn Camera) and other Council equipment will be required to be worn in the role.
