What's the role?This is an exciting opportunity for suitably qualified and experienced Grounds Utility person to maintain the site grounds and buildings. The role also involves handy person work throughout the minesite as required. This position would suit a driven and self-motivated individual who is hard working, reliable and isn't afraid to get their hands dirty.This a DIDO 14 days on 7 days off roster working 9.5hrs per day.
  • Perform regular lawn maintenance, including mowing, edging, and trimming
  • Plant and maintain flowers, shrubs, and trees according to seasonal requirements
  • Operate and maintain various landscaping equipment and tools
  • Implement and maintain irrigation systems to ensure proper watering schedules
  • Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides as needed, following safety guidelines
  • Remove debris, litter, and weeds from landscaped areas
  • Perform basic maintenance and repairs on grounds equipment
  • Assist in the design and implementation of new landscaping projects
  • Monitor and report any safety hazards or maintenance issues
  • Adapt maintenance practices to suit the local climate and plant species of Weipa Town
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1-2 years of experience in grounds maintenance or landscaping
  • Proficiency in operating landscaping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, and blowers
  • Knowledge of basic gardening and horticulture techniques
  • Experience with irrigation system maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with lawn care techniques and safe handling of chemicals and fertilizers
  • Basic equipment maintenance and repair skills
  • Valid driver's license
  • Pesticide application certification (preferred)
  • Physical ability to perform outdoor work in various weather conditions
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work efficiently and manage time effectively
  • Reliable and able to work independently or as part of a team
  • Familiarity with local plant species and landscaping practices in Nebo (preferred)
Working on the mines can be incredibly rewarding, but it's not for everyone-our casual FIFO roles require flexibility, reliability, and a willingness to work across a variety of roles and duties throughout Queensland. Candidates must be local to where the job is being advertised or willing to relocate at their own expense and should be prepared for 11-hour workdays on a 2:1 roster (two weeks on-site, one week at home).
