As a Senior Child Safety Practitioner (CSQ Level 2) you will work in the areas of child protection, children in care and family support. You will be responsible for:
  • Responding to concerns regarding the safety and wellbeing of children and applying the provisions of the Children and Community Services Act 2004.
  • Taking legal action to promote the safety and wellbeing of children where necessary.
  • Undertaking case work activities of a complex nature.
  • Providing services to children placed in the care of the CEO.
  • Providing advice and expertise to District staff on the child safety and protection issues.
  • Assisting and planning with District staff and others to develop community and family capacity to provide a safe environment for children and other vulnerable people.
  • Developing and maintaining a high degree of knowledge and skills in providing services and supports to families and communities to enhance the safety and wellbeing of children and other vulnerable members of the community.
  • Investigating serious concerns about the welfare and safety of children and taking action appropriate to the situation.
As a Senior Child Safety Practitioner - Children’s Court (CSQ Level 2) you will work in the areas of child protection, children in care and family support. You will be responsible for:
  • Responding to concerns regarding the safety and wellbeing of children and applying the provisions of the Children and Community Services Act 2004 and the Young Offenders Act 1994.
  • Ensuring adequate legal representation for children who are in the care of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) when they appear or are charged before the Children’s Court.
  • Providing services to children placed in the care of the CEO, especially in relation to juvenile justice and accommodation issues.
  • Quality assures reports for the courts, and lodges the same for the Magistrates and the President.
  • Providing advice and assistance to District staff on child safety and protection issues as it relates to the Children’s Criminal Courts.
  • Developing and maintaining a high degree of knowledge and skills in providing services and supports to families of children going through the Children’s Criminal Courts.

  • 1 position for a period of 7 months.
  • 1 position until March 2028.
Senior Child Safety Practitioner – Children’s Court:
  • 1 position for a period of 6 months, with the possibility of extension.
  • 1 position from 01 December 2025 to 29 May 2026.
Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments will be made for this or similar future vacancies fixed term that arise within the next 12 months across the Department of Communities.Qualification Requirements
You must have a Bachelors degree in Social Work, Psychology, or relevant human services area to be eligible for this position. All overseas qualifications must be assessed for Australian equivalency.
