With a booming, culturally rich and diverse community, and less than an hour's drive from the CBD (still within the bounds of Myki and ride-sharing), Melbourne's North is fastNorthern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Medical Scientist to join the Northern Pathology team at Northern Health, Epping in a Full Time, Fixed Term Capacity.Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne's rapidly growing outer north.Services are provided through our five main campuses:Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn Centre, and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park and Coburg.About the Role:The role is responsible for the reliable, accurate and timely provision of pathology results in the Core Laboratory (Biochemistry, Haematology, Blood Bank) at Northern Pathology Victoria (NPV).The role and responsibilities are to be carried out in a manner that is consistent with the values, quality objectives, performance goals, delegations, policies, procedures, and operations of NPV and in line with the Northern Health “Code of Conduct”.The major duties and/or responsibilities and the Key Performance Indicators as outlined in the scope of the position description.The incumbent may be required to perform other job-related duties as delegated by the Principal and Senior Scientists.This role is responsible for
  • Performing a wide range of diagnostic tests (relevant to department of deployment) by automated and manual methods
  • Haematology including Coagulation and blood film morphology
  • Biochemistry including immunoassay
  • Blood Banking
  • Tests are performed in accordance with documented protocols
  • Participate in a seven-day, 24-hour rotating and on call rosters, including public holidays
Other tests as relevant as Northern Pathology Victoria broadens its scope of testing.To be successful in this role you will have:
  • Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Science) or equivalent. Qualifications must be acceptable for Graduate entry into Australian Institute of Medical and Clinical Scientists (AIMS),
  • Australian Association of Clinical Biochemists (AACB) or Australian Society for Microbiology (ASM)
  • Experience in a diagnostic laboratory with demonstrated experience working in Chemistry, Haematology (including morphology) and Blood bank departments is preferable
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Systems e.g. Ultra
  • Ability and willingness to participate in the after-hours and on-call roster
  • Capable of performing all laboratory investigations, including instrument operation and understand the principles of analytical methods used
  • Recognises and understands the clinical significance of results which should be communicated to the requesting medical offer and other staff
  • Be aware of, and comply with, NPAAC and NATA standards and other relevant standards and guidelines
