With a booming, culturally rich and diverse community, and less than an hour's drive from the CBD, Melbourne's North is fast becoming the place to be.About the Role:An exciting opportunity exists for enthusiastic and motivated Registered Nurses to advance their careers with the Graduate Diploma of Midwifery at Northern Health in 2026.Employment Status: 0.6 EFT ( Paid Employment ) 48 hours per fortnight, employment to begin February 2026 until January 2027 (parental leave).A day in the life of a Diploma of Midwifery Student:Postnatal ward (4 days per fortnight paid with patient load)
- Admission and discharge planning, assessing, caring and advocating for birthing people and their families through their child birthing and new parenting journey
- Supporting breastfeeding and mother-crafting
- Working collaboratively with the obstetrics and gynaecology, social work, Koori maternity services, perinatal mental health and physio teams
- Supernumerary clinical placement providing supportive labour and birthing care to birthing people
- Opportunity to build and apply knowledge through a structured program
- Clinical support and timely feedback from experienced Clinical Midwifery Educators, Clinical Support Midwives and Midwifery and Neonatal teams
- Supernumerary time in antenatal clinic to support the development of pregnancy care and recruitment for the Continuity of Care Experience component of the program
- Neonatal nursery rotation to observe and experience care of babies requiring higher needs care.
- Bachelor of Nursing
- Current National Police History Check
- Current Working with Children Check
- Registered Nurse as per APHRA registration
- Recent acute medical/surgical experience. (minimum 12 months, preferable 2 years)
- Exposure to low, collaborative and high-risk pregnancy care
- Clinical support to complete University Hurdles
- Paid pro-rata study and exam leave to support your studies
