Troocoo Government are supporting a key QLD State Government client to recruit a permanent Managing Lawyer (PO6) within Customer Legal Services. Reporting to the Official Solicitor, you will lead and mentor a team of junior lawyers (P03 and above) and paralegals, while managing a diverse and challenging caseload.Please note the salary banding for this position - $145,607 - $153,869 per annum + leave loading & 12.75% super.The Role
This role functions much like a private law practice within the public sector – with budget, billable hours (3–4 hours daily), and high-quality client outcomes at its core. It represents a unique opportunity to build your leadership profile while working on meaningful matters that directly impact the lives of vulnerable Queenslanders.As the PO6 Managing Lawyer, your responsibilities will include:
  • Leading and mentoring junior lawyers and paralegals to deliver efficient, cost-effective and high-quality services.
  • Managing complex litigation files and advisory work in areas such as:
  • Civil litigation (including elder abuse, misappropriation of assets, succession law).
  • Statutory wills for minors and novel estate queries.
  • Equity, trusts, and property law.
  • Representing the Department in Court and Tribunal proceedings several times each week.
  • Ensuring compliance with professional standards, legislative requirements, and financial accountability.
  • Driving a positive workplace culture that is ethical, inclusive, and focused on high performance.
About You
We are seeking a solutions-focused lawyer who brings:
  • At least 5 years’ post-qualification experience.
  • Demonstrated management experience and capability to lead a team of legal professionals.
  • Strong technical expertise across civil litigation, succession law, or elder/disability law.
  • Courtroom advocacy experience with the confidence to handle sensitive and complex cases.
Mandatory Requirements
  • Possession of a degree in Law or equivalent.
  • You must be admitted or eligible for immediate admission as a legal practitioner in Queensland, and eligible for a current practicing certificate and entry in the High Court Register of Practitioners.
