About the DepartmentThe department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services.The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.About the DivisionThe Division operates to deliver a set of connected services to provide the right information to the right people at the right time:
  • Continuously build evidence of what works through generating analytic insights, evaluation and managing data on system performance and departmental outcomes to inform evidence-based decision making
  • Develop a strategic approach for the capture, analysis, evaluation and dissemination of key information, and knowledge that helps better inform evidence-based decision making
  • Monitor the Department's performance against internally and externally set measures and targets including Education State measures and those defined in the Outcomes Framework
  • Inform high impact actions in schools and local area networks through the development, collection and integration of, accessible place-based information, for high quality system analysis to inform strategy, policy development and investment decisions
  • Generate and report a more precise and timely analysis and evidence of outcomes for cohorts including on how Victoria's children and young people are faring, with a focus on vulnerable population groups
  • Maintain the Division's Business Intelligence enterprise system capability to support the analysis and reporting needs of the Department and help inform policy change, program investment and resource management to improve learner outcomes.
Evidence and Insights Branch:
  • Design, analyse and provide access to place based early childhood and school education results to inform regional effort, strategy, policy development and investment decisions.
  • Generate precise and timely analysis and evidence of outcomes for cohorts, including how Victoria's children and young people are faring, with a focus on vulnerable population groups.
  • Build the capability of Regional and school staff to use and interpret performance reporting products. Provide school level data and reports to support school improvement and school review processes.
About the RoleThe Senior Analyst supports the work of the Analytics team by leading quantitative analysis projects requiring data acquisition, transformation, statistical analysis and visualisation. The role works with data from surveys, achievement tests and administrative systems and requires thoughtful and effective integration of multiple datasets to derive meaningful insights.AttributesWe're seeking someone with extensive data analytics experience. The ideal candidate will have at least 4 years of experience in:
  • Querying, joining and manipulating data using SQL
  • Data analysis and visualisation in R (preferred) and Power BI
  • Statistical analysis, including forcasting and analysis using propensity matching approaches
The following will be highly desirable:
  • Experience with Department of Education Victoria data.
  • Experience with database management processes.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Working with program areas to design analyses to support investment and implementation decisions
  • Responding to ad-hoc analytical requests
  • Presenting insights to senior stakeholders.
