The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.VCAA – Finance UnitLed by the Chief Financial Officer, the Finance Unit's core purpose is to maintain strong financial management practices across all aspects of the VCAA, and as a result, see financial impacts considered as a part of all decision making.Role PurposeThe purpose of this role is to provide financial accounting support for the unique functions of the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority. The Senior Financial Accountant is responsible for preparation monthly financial performance reporting, general ledger reconciliations and will be a key team player in annual financial reporting and compliance activities.Key responsibilities include:
Prepare and maintain of monthly financial performance reports in Power BI
Prepare monthly general ledger reconciliations, including right-of-use asset calculations
Prepare annual financial reporting and compliance requirements, as part of a team
Assist with collation of materials for interim and year end External Audit (Victorian Auditor-General Office) requests, ensuring they are easy to follow, complete and accurate
Assist in the annual review and update of VCAA finance policies
Conduct financial analysis and provide advice, as required, to support decisions
Drive continuous improvement to uplift the quality of all financial processes and outputs in line with accounting standards, best practice and audit advice.
Attributes
Demonstrated experience in using Oracle financials or similar finance systems
Demonstrated technical expertise in utilising financial data in developing Power BI reports and visualisations, to achieve meaningful insights to financial information
Experience in government financial frameworks and policies, including the State Resource Information Management System (SRIMS)
Experience in preparation of financial statements within state government and other statutory financial reporting requirements
Advanced knowledge and application of business tools within a finance context, particularly with the use of Microsoft Excel including pivot tables, advance formulas and handling large volume of data sets
Proven ability to plan and prioritise effectively, showing initiative and capacity to collaborate across different teams
High level of integrity and accountability, including respect for your colleagues and your work
Ability to identify and propose workable solutions to problems
