Walk alongside young people as they build their futureAbout NEXT STEPS ProgramThe Next Steps program supports young people aged 16–21 as they transition from care to independent living. Many of these young people have experienced significant challenges, including trauma and disrupted connections, and are now preparing for one of the biggest changes in their lives.Through therapeutic case work, case management, and practical life skills development, our team helps them grow in confidence, strengthen relationships, and build a solid foundation for adulthood.The RoleAs a Social Worker with Next Steps, you’ll work one-on-one with young people to:
Build safe, respectful, and trusting relationships.
Help develop everyday life skills (budgeting, cooking, self-care, routines).
Support identity, healing, and belonging, including strengthening family, cultural, and community ties.
Lead case planning with young people, focusing on their goals, strengths, and challenges.
Advocate for their needs and make sure their voices are heard.
Collaborate with child protection, health, education, housing, and other services to give holistic support.
What You’ll Bring
A degree in Social Work or related experience.
Knowledge of child protection responsibilities and trauma-informed practice.
Experience working with young people with complex needs.
Strong case management skills.
The ability to build genuine, supportive relationships while maintaining professional boundaries.
A DHS Working with Children Check and driver’s licence.
It’s a bonus if you have:
Experience in the care system or supporting young people leaving care.
Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.
Knowledge of housing and tenancy systems.
Familiarity with Penelope or similar client management systems.
