Our client has an exciting new opportunity for a cross-skilled Data Engineer with great communication skills and knowledge of Aviation business to join their Data and Analytics teamThey are seeking an experienced T-shaped individual with Data Engineering skillset to develop and deliver advanced Aviation related use cases on their Data Lakehouse platform. This role requires deep understanding of airport operations and aviation business processes, combined with technical expertise in Microsoft Fabric, Azure Databricks and real-time intelligence solutions. The successful candidate will deliver Aviation data initiatives while effectively communicating and negotiating with key stakeholders and leadership teams.This role is a 6-month contract based in the Western Suburbs, Melbourne and requires the successful candidate to be there 3 days on site. Generally the connect days in office are Tuesday/Thursday and the other date is flexible for onsite.Please note, to apply applicants must have the following:

The requisite skills and experience defined below,
At least a Working Visa or Australian Permanent Residence working rights,
At least 3+ years of local working experience in the same or similar role, and
Must have 3+ years experience working with Microsoft Fabric.

Key responsibilities:The role's duties and accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

Design and implementation of innovative use cases on the organisation's Data Lakehouse platform
Develop comprehensive data solutions that support critical airport operations and aviation business processes
Design real-time intelligence solutions for mission-critical airport operations (flight operations, passenger flow, baggage handling, etc.)
Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to executives and senior leadership
Build strong relationships with operational teams, IT leadership, and business unit heads
Build scalable architectures that integrate operational, financial, and real-time data streams
Drive adoption of Data capabilities across various teams in the aviation business unit

The successful candidate will have:

Microsoft Fabric certification and Azure data engineer certifications
Experience with aviation-specific data systems (AODB, FIDS, BHS systems)
Knowledge of airport performance metrics and KPIs (OTP, passenger throughput, baggage handling efficiency)
Experience with machine learning and AI implementation in operational environments is desirable
Understanding of aviation industry compliance and regulatory requirements
Previous experience within aviation industry is highly desirable
