Senior Work Health and Safety Officer
Location: Gold Coast (with short interstate trips to Sydney, Melbourne & Perth)About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Work Health and Safety Officer to ensure safe, compliant, and legislatively aligned workplaces across multiple sites in Australia. This role is based at their Gold Coast office, with short trips to interstate sites (approx. 4 days per site during the contract). You will support the implementation of robust WHS systems and foster a proactive safety culture across the business.Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with the Work Health and Safety Act and Regulations across Australian states and territories.
  • Develop, implement, and review WHS policies, procedures, and safety management systems for a multi-jurisdictional business.
  • Conduct risk assessments, hazard identification, and site safety audits nationally.
  • Investigate incidents, injuries, and near misses, producing detailed reports and improvement recommendations.
  • Deliver safety induction and training programs meeting national and local regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incident reports, training, and compliance registers.
  • Provide advice and guidance to operational leaders and employees on WHS best practices.
  • Lead or contribute to safety committee meetings, toolbox talks, and safety communications.
  • Coordinate and test emergency preparedness plans across multiple sites.
  • Travel to sites as needed (a current driver's licence is essential).
Qualifications & Experience
  • Certificate IV or Diploma in Work Health and Safety (or equivalent).
  • Senior-level experience in a WHS role, ideally within a multi-site, construction or water industry
  • Strong knowledge of WHS legislation and Codes of Practice across Australia.
  • Proven experience in risk management, safety audits, and incident investigations.
  • Proficiency in WHS software platforms.
  • Understanding of safe handling of heavy machinery and dangerous goods.
  • Ability to work independently and provide actionable recommendations.
Desirable Attributes
  • Auditing qualifications (e.g., Lead Auditor in WHS).
  • Knowledge of ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems.
  • Willingness to travel interstate as required.
