The OrganisationMimal Land Management is an Indigenous-led organisation based in south-central Arnhem Land, committed to protecting and managing country, culture, and people through ranger-led land and fire management, cultural knowledge transfer, and sustainable development opportunities. This role supports Mimal’s operational capabilities and cultural values from the Weemol Ranger Base.Our country is a living landscape - our culture, heritage, laws and language are linked to the land.In November 2022, Mimal Land Management submitted its Indigenous Protected Area management plan to the Federal Government. It’s the final step before the government considers Mimal’s proposal to declare an IPA across 18,300 square kilometres in south-central Arnhem Land.It was developed through in-depth consultation with more than 20 clan groups who collaborated with Indigenous rangers, researchers and scientists to map and prioritise Mimal’s environmental and cultural assets, identify threats and outline ways to manage them.The area’s natural and cultural assets are managed by Mimal Rangers on behalf of and in cooperation with landowners and custodians.Under an established Healthy Country Plan, the rangers manage land, water and fire, and conduct wildlife protection, monitoring and revegetation programs, weed and feral animal control, and carry out rock art, cultural history and language projects, and learning on country education programs with school children.The OpportunityMimal Land Management is seeking a dynamic and values-driven Operations Manager to lead day-to-day operations, drive team performance and ensure the smooth delivery of key projects across Country. Based in Darwin with regular travel to the Weemol Ranger Base, this role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to high-impact cultural and environmental outcomes in partnership with Traditional Owners. You’ll work closely with the CEO, Base Team Leader and Board members to shape systems, lead people and support the delivery of Mimal’s Healthy Country Plan.About You
  • Proven experience in operations or program management, ideally in a remote, cross-cultural or land management setting
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of managing and developing high-performing, geographically dispersed teams
  • Confident managing budgets, work plans, assets and projects from planning through to delivery
  • Culturally competent, with a deep respect for Aboriginal knowledge systems and ability to communicate respectfully across cultures
  • Skilled in reporting, governance and stakeholder engagement, including preparing board updates and managing funding requirements
  • Knowledge of WHS, risk management and compliance processes
  • High-level problem-solving, planning and organisational skills
  • Manual driver’s licence with 4WD experience
