In everything we do, we take an approach to protect, grow and innovate WA’s economy, community and environment.About the opportunityDPIRD Field Research Operations has a vacancy for a full-time Technical Officer based at the Esperance Downs Research Station (EDRS).As a Field Research Operations Technician your daily routine will be a blend of office/shed tasks and fieldwork as you contribute to supporting our vital field research trials.You will collaborate with researchers, growers and external stakeholders to implement the end-to-end activities of the Field Research trials located at EDRS and the greater Esperance area. This includes site selection, sowing, spraying, crop monitoring and harvesting. You will also assist the Senior Technical Officer manage the day-to-day operations at the research station. Some travel will be required throughout the WA agricultural region.Ideally you will have worked in a similar role previously (either in a field research context or as a farm hand) and possess the following attributes/qualifications:
  • Experience operating a range of agricultural machinery including tractors, seeders, spray booms and harvesters.
  • General farm maintenance and repair skills
  • Experience using herbicides, pesticides and other hazardous substances in accordance with standard safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
  • Hold a current ChemCert certification, forklift ticket and truck license (HR or MC) or be prepared to obtain if successful.
  • Physically fit, willing and able to undertake year-round manual work.
  • A trade/agriculture certificate and/or significant relevant experience.
