Job Description:Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia's future.Downer Professional Services is comprised of two business units, our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice and Team Downer, a major service partner to Defence. Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for our clients in Defence and National Security.We currently have an opportunity for a Communications Engineer in Melbourne to work on a Land project.What You'll DoThis role offers a broad scope, with key role responsibilities including:Lead complex communication engineering tasks, providing expert advice and contributing to the advancement of engineering principles and practices.Exercise delegated engineering and regulatory authorities, ensuring compliance with technical standards and Defence frameworks.Identify and manage risks and uncertainties in planning and decision-making, applying sound engineering judgment to prioritise activities.Review and assess technical documentation and design packages, ensuring materiel meets endorsed requirements and safety standards.Foster collaboration and mentor junior engineers, while effectively managing team workflows, resources, and stakeholder communications.What You'll BringUS Export Control Compliance: Applicants must disclose any dual citizenship due to access requirements for US export-controlled materiel; appointment is subject to approval under the United States Arms Export Control Act.Technical Proficiency Assessment: Candidates must be assessed as Technically Proficient (TP) at Level 3 or 4 by the LC4S LCSS SPO Principal Engineer to obtain the required Technical Authority.TP Level 3 Criteria: Requires Chartered Professional Engineer registration on the National Engineering Register and extensive experience in advanced, complex communication engineering.TP Level 4 Criteria: Requires a recognised four-year engineering degree and a minimum of three years post-graduate experience in relevant fields such as RF Communications.Defence Employment Restriction: Candidates must not have worked full-time for Defence (ADF SERCAT 6/7 or APS) within the 12 months prior to commencing as an Above-the-Line contractor with CA31.Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain a minimum Negative Vetting 1 or higher Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth.
